The Master Blasters program (formally T20 Blast) provides you with games for the whole season, including players cap in your choice of Big Bash team colour, WJCC Shirt and trophy.
So what do the kids play?
- A highly modified cricket game – it’s “beach” cricket played on grass
- Played with a plastic ball, bat and stumps
- Everyone bats, bowls and fields
- No one gets out – everyone bats for the same number of balls
- No wides or no balls – everyone bowls the same number of balls
- No pads, helmet or “whites” – it’s just get out there and play!
- It’s all about fun and enjoyment
- A short team based “training/warm up” session for the players just before the game
- Starts October and breaks for Xmas holidays
For a number of years, Whitfords Junior Cricket Club has run a very successful, nationally recognised, entry level program called Junior Blasters for boys and girls from ages 5 to 8. This program combined the Cricket Australia Woolworths Junior Blasters program with the Woolworths Master Blasters program that Cricket Australia introduced in 2018 – indeed, Cricket Australia and the WACA talked with us about our Junior Blast program when planning Master Blasters!
Since 2015 we incorporated the Master Blasters program into our club, allowing natural progression from Junior Blasters through to Juniors. Our Master Blasters program is for boys and girls in Y2 & Y3 and runs at the same time and at the same venue as our Junior Blasters program.
Upon registration, each Master Blasters player is allocated to a team based on his/her school year. On game day, the team does a training session with their coach followed by a game against another Whitfords Master Blasters team of players from the same school age.
Our Master Blasters season lasts the whole cricket season (versus the standard 8 week program offered by most other Master Blasters clubs), running from October to March, breaking for the Christmas/school holidays. Up till Christmas, we play on Saturday mornings at James Cook (near Whitfords Shopping Center) then after Christmas, we play Friday nights under the lights at Macdonald Reserve.
Master Blasters on the experience gained in Junior Blasters, although prior Junior Blasters participation is not necessary. The game format is similar to our Junior Blasters format and is aimed at fun and enjoyment with maximum participation by all. Everyone bats, bowls and fields equally with encouragement the name of the game! Master Blasters is played on larger fields, with children progressing to using Master Blasters branded plastic bats suitable for young children.
The format allows parents and coaches to interact with participants throughout – indeed, we actively encourage parents to get involved with their kids. Friday nights are great family picnic nights. There’s even a Parents vs kids event.
Whitfords Master Blasters Player Packs
As part of our program, we provide all players with the Cricket Australia Woolworths Master Blasters participant pack.
The pack is included in the Registration fee.
The club provides all additional cricket gear needed to play the games – there is no need for pads, helmets or cricket “whites”.
